For the last few years, I have been following these two amazing ladies online. The first one is Isabelle Mercier, a crazy, fun, energetic woman with charisma and a lot of passion for life. Her partner Margarita Romano, is quiet, nurturing, loves horses and often seemed to be in the background, but has the most amazing soul. Margarita and I seem to have a lot in common and I have always wished she would step in front of the camera more so we could get to know her better. Then one day she announced that she was writing a book. I really had no idea what it was going to be about, but I ran to my computer to be one of the first people to preorder it.
Months later, it finally came, but life was so crazy I had to set it aside for a while. When we booked our holiday I knew that I would take it with me and that would be my book for the trip. It was a much different book than I usually take with me. They are almost always a self-help book, or a book about essential oils, or maybe a few of each. I do not know why I take so many, we only go for a week. There is no way I am going to have time for more than 2 books, but I can not decide which one I want to take, so I take them all.♥
This trip, however, I took just two, Sitting on the Fence by Margarita Romano and Judgement Detox by Gabrielle Bernstein. Both were excellent, but I am not done Judgement Detox. Oops, I lied, I also took: This is Marketing by Seth Godin, what can I say, old habits are hard to break, buy Hey it was 3 not 6 or more.
Sitting on the Fence by Margarita Romano
This is a brilliant book, once I started reading it, I had a hard time putting it down. Sitting on the Fence is a book about how Margarita feels about the power of love while sharing the story of her and Isabelle's life together. There is so much great information and amazing advice in the book and I am a sucker for amazing quotes.
"Holding back any emotions is not a good idea. Holding back love only causes us future regret and life is too short for regret.
People who hold back the love of any kind, somewhere deep down may feel like they don't deserve to receive it." page 174
OMG have you ever felt like you do not "deserve" something? She nailed it!
I also hope that people who read the book will walk away with a different understanding and awareness of same-sex relationships. When Margarita and Isabelle fell in love, they both had boyfriends and resisted their own feelings for a while. I think society needs to see this side of relationships. Loved just happened, they were not looking for it, at least not with another woman.
The thing is, their story is not really that different from most of our colleges/university stories. You meet a few new people...you have a lot in common, (you are taking the same classes, so there can get some great connections)...and somewhere in there is a person you really connect with and probably remain good friends for the rest of your lives. The only difference is that they discovered that they LOVED each other.
LOVE IS LOVE, it is no different who we are. We all just want the same thing and we all have to work at our relationships, we can not take our partners for granted. I am almost the same age as Margarita & Isabelle and I had a few gay friends at that time and I know how hard it was on some of them, so I can only imagine how tough it would have been to tell their families and friends. The thing is, when we follow our heart and be true to ourselves, that is really all that matters. We often make things so much more complicated than they need to be and our "anticipation" of how someone will respond is often not at all what they will do. If they respond poorly, however, that is their problem, not yours. Let them own that!
" At the heart of every one of us, we all want to be loved for who we are, and not judged or expected to be who we're not. This book is another piece towards my vision of increasing awareness on the true essence of love"
This is a brilliant book and will change your relationships with the people you love, but most importantly it will help you to love YOURSELF more. Speaking positively to yourself and the people around you will change your life forever.
Make some lasting changes in your life and order a copy of Sitting on the Fence, maybe order two and give one to someone you love. Or here is an even better idea ... make it a legacy book and ask them to read it and ....pass it on to someone THEY love & watch the amazing impact it could make on the world. It would be the gift that keeps on giving.
Thank you, Margarita, from the bottom of my heart.♥
